Red Bull 14 Place : Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi. Country : Mexico Date : 10.02.2007 Photos : Mauricio Ramos and Alfredo Martinez http://www.redbull.com Terry Adams wins Red Bull 14.
On Saturday, February 10th 2007, the Flatland Red Bull 14 competition took place in the town amphitheater of Real de Catorce, with twelve national and four international competitors, including the worldwide champions of this sport such as American Terry Adams, Finn Martti Kuoppa, and Spaniard Jorge Viki Gómez.
Twelve competitors from several parts of the country and four worldwide champions were the main players of a first-class cyclism competition. The selected site was the town amphitheater, an old reconstructed area dating from Colony times.
Although the competition was expected to take place at four o'clock in the evening, it was delayed until six because of rain. However, this had no negative effects on people's mood, since they were standing in the queue from three o'clock on, ready to enter the amphitheater and witness the event.

“It was a spectacular event never seen before in Mexico”, said Diana Domínguez from San Luis who traveled two hours to cheer for her favorite, American champion Terry Adams, who won all fights and ended up in first place. Finnish flatland worldwide champion Martti Kuoppa came in second place with a routine that seemed as precise and perfect as a dance and gave prove of what good Flatland is all about.
However, Spaniard Jorge Viki Gómez also performed very well. He was very pleased with the audience and wore a mask of Blue Demon. The Mexican Aldo Castro was the surprise of the day. He came from Mexico City to become the first Mexican among the best three worldwide Flatland competitors in the final match. “I was already retired and I feel very happy because I almost defeated Viki Gómez. I am sure that if more events of such high-level are being organized, Mexican Flatland will improve significantly.”
The general opinion of judges Randy Morales and Carlos Toledo from Puerto Rico was very favorable because of the enthusiasm of the Mexican athletes and audience. “The Mexican competitors have been very brave because they fought face to face with the best in the world. All this shows that they are willing to improve.”
By the way, Terry Adams also went back home very pleased: “It was an incredible event with a marvelous organization. I cannot put into words what I am feeling in this moment. Sharing the stage with whom I believe to be the best athletes in the Flatland world has been a pleasure and an immense honor.”
The event ended with a concert of the musical group Porter.
